Grading: Grading Scale for this class:
A =          90%-100%      (Excellence)
B =          80%-89%        (Above Average)
C =          70%-79%        (Average)
D =          60%-69%        (Below Average)
F =          below 60%       (Failing)

Please note: a student must earn a grade of C, 70%, or better to progress to the second semester. In other words, in the instructors eyes, a grade of a D or lower is considered failing.

As a guideline, each chapter will have at least one vocabulary assignment, at least one test, and one set of questions for a minimum of three grades.  Quizzes may be given at any time.

Turning in work:
All assignments must be complete before turning the assignment in.

Work is due at the beginning of the period of the due date.  If work is not turned in on time, the assignment will be penalized 10% for each day it is late.  Beyond five days, the work cannot be submitted for a grade.

Turning in work is the responsibility of the student.  The teacher will not remind a student to turn in late work.

Never-ever hand an assignment to the teacher.  Instead, place it in the basket on the teacher’s desk.

Six week grade percentage breakdown:
Quizzes and tests: 40% of total six-week grade
Daily work: 25% of total six-week grade
Lab work: 25% of total six-week grade
Professional points: 10% of total six-week grade

Grades are cumulative from the beginning of class.  Final six-week grade will count 75% of the final grade and the final exam will count 25% of the final grade.

The final exam will be two parts.  The first part is the competency section.  The student must demonstrate the building and configuration of a PC given certain parameters.  The student must also troubleshoot two software failures to the satisfaction of the instructor.  The second part of the final exam will be a multiple-choice exam covering all of the material taught in the classroom.
Because juniors and seniors do not leave school on the same date, the seniors are given priority on taking the competency exam first.

Text books:
CompTIA A+ Certification Essentials, CompTIA Press
CompTIA A+ PC Technician, Mike Meyers
CompTIA A+ PC Technician Lab Manual, Mike Meyers and Dennis Haley

The chapters might not be presented in sequential order.  Sections from various chapters will be taught in different order than presented in the book.  Due to the amount of material covered in a short period of time, not all material will be presented during class.  The student is responsible for reading the book and comprehending the information.  Questions should be asked if a student does not understand the material either presented in the class or read from the book.
