This mural reminds us to appreciate people's differences rather than fear them.

We live in a diverse nation made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds. That kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other. And to do that we have to respect each other. Here are some ways we can respect people who are different from us.

  • Try to learn something from other people.

  • Show interest and appreciation for other people's cultures and backgrounds.

  • Show appreciation for diverse opinions and views a variety of topics.

Many of us have diverse ideas about a variety of topics; take art for example. Many of us have a variety of opinions about this mural and the kind of art, or music or literature that we like. Let’s celebrate that we have diverse ideas and respect the effort and talent that is expressed in this mural and in the efforts of our classmates.

Today we have learned about the process making the mural that hangs in our building. We invite you to let it be a reminder that we need to show respect for the Hiatt school building and for all the people, custodians who keep our school clean, teachers and staff who help us learn, the principals and vice principals,  bus drivers and volunteers.
